  • Gearing

Time has come to buy new sprockets and chain for my 07 CRF250R. Was curious what would be optimal gearing for riding single track, without being sluggish on roads ect. I know its a bit of a compromise, but was just curious to what everyone suggests.

Different bike, but I run 12/50 on my 2013 Husqvarna TE310R dual sport, primarily riding Blue Mountain, very little 'dual sport', just riding from home to the trails and back. I ran the same on my 2010 TE250, and similar on the KLX250S I had (although I think it was 47 or 49 on the rear.) What gearing are you currently running?

      I run a 13 / 51. Seems ok.

I think 13/53 is stock on your bike and 13-52 or 13-53 would be even better at McNutt. The CRF250X has lower first and taller second gear than the 250R. 13-53 would allow you to ride in 1-2-3 gears on the McNutt trails with more time in 2nd.
