2026 October Monthly Newsletter
Next trail maintenance day is Oct 25
We always need volunteers for the trail maintenance days and highly encourage riders to come out and help. Trail days are typically the last Sunday of each month. We meet in the staging area around 9:30, organize into groups and then head out for around 10am. We rarely ride in to do trail work – we typically drive and hike in. Many locations will require a truck to get to. If you don’t have a 4×4/truck, you can always leave the car in staging and hop in with somebody else. Come prepared with proper clothing and footwear, bring a snack and water – the club will provide all the tools necessary.
2027 memberships
2027 memberships are on sale now. If you don’t have a 2026 membership and purchase after Oct 1, you’ll get the remainder of 2026, plus all of 2027.
Viking Bags has donated a backpack to be given away to a new or renewing member who selects to have the auto-renew subscription option enabled. The bag will be given away in January.
Next club meeting is Nov 5th
Next club meeting is Thursday Nov 5th starting at 6:30PM at the Ricky’s Country Restaurant in Maple Ridge.
Be Prepared
The club was contacted again to help a retrieve a bike for a rider who had a mechanical issue on the mountain. As a note, the club is generally more responsive if the rider who needs help is a current club member. Carry tools etc. and have a plan if something goes wrong. Riding alone can make the situation worse. The club is not a rescue service – the volunteers have day jobs and can’t be expected to just walk away from work to go help out a rider, although they often do.
Pack it In Pack it Out
We hate to have to say it again, but take your garbage, cans and bottles with you. Don’t leave them on the side of the trail. Pack it in, Pack it out. The bottles and cans are miraculously lighter on the way out. Your sandwich bag probably is too.
Winter Trail Closures
Every year, the club closes some trails for the winter. Some trails just don’t support winter riding and will suffer extreme damage if left open through the winter. Which trails are closed will be determined by the trail committee based on current trail situations, but many of the same trails get closed each year.
Carry a hand saw
Thank you to the riders who have been carrying a hand saw and cutting back deadfall on the trails.
Lockbox at the gate
Please report to the club any issues with the lockbox at the gate. Remember if the code isn’t working, to press the reset button at the bottom center to reset and then try the code again. Please be gentle with the lockbox – we replace it 3-5 times/year. They’re not designed to last forever, but with care they can last longer than they do, until a vandal decides to physically damage the lockbox.
Wet Weather riding guide
Please see the wet weather riding guide on the website to refresh on the club’s guidance for riding in wet weather. Generally, try to gain altitude on the FSR’s, avoid trails that are muddy/mushy. Riding soft trails in the wet can do a significant amount of damage to the trails, making even more work for the already stretched thin volunteers.
Thank you to our volunteers and paid members
Thank you to the volunteers and paid members. Come on out and help build the legacy that is Blue Mountain. If you do volunteer trail work outside of regular Trail Maintenance days (time is tracked by the crew leaders on trail days), please log your time at: BMMC.ca/time
