Next trail maintenance day is Sep 27

We always need volunteers for the trail maintenance days and highly encourage riders to come out and help. Trail days are typically the last Sunday of each month. We meet in the staging area around 9:30, organize into groups and then head out for around 10am. We rarely ride in to do trail work – we typically drive and hike in. Many locations will require a truck to get to. If you don’t have a 4×4/truck, you can always leave the car in staging and hop in with somebody else. Come prepared with proper clothing and footwear, bring a snack and water – the club will provide all the tools necessary.

2027 memberships

2027 memberships will go on sale in early October. If you don’t have a 2026 membership and purchase after Oct 1, you’ll get the remainder of 2026, plus all of 2027.

New provincial data shows outdoor recreation contributes $6.6 billion to B.C.’s economy: https://www.orcbc.ca/blog/outdoor-recreation-satellite-account. This shows that outdoor recreation is a major contributor to the economy in BC!

Pack it In Pack it Out!

We hate to have to say it again, but take your garbage, cans and bottles with you. Don’t leave them on the side of the trail. Pack it in, Pack it out. The bottles and cans are miraculously lighter on the way out. Your sandwich bag probably is too.

Winter Trail Closures

Every year, the club closes some trails for the winter. Some trails just don’t support winter riding and will suffer extreme damage if left open through the winter. Which trails are closed will be determined by the trail committee based on current trail situations, but many of the same trails get closed each year.

ORV project

The ORV funded project on Cub has completed on budget and early. Cub required a substantial amount of work and there are 6 new boardwalks/bridges on the trail to minimize impact in wet/muddy areas. Please note that Cub is a downhill only trail, please do not ride it uphill.

New RSTBC Recreation Officer

Rec Sites and Trails BC has a new Recreation Officer for the Chilliwack Forest District. Club representatives have met with him on several occasions to bring him up to speed on Blue Mountain and to review upcoming logging operations.

Upcoming logging

The K&K First Nations WoodLot will be logging this fall. Locations will be: the north end of Ridge Trail, one section beside the lower part of The Hole, below Sandman and along the powerlines, crossing Ferret. Club reps and the new Recreation Officer have done a site visit with the representative from the K&K woodlot to review the plans and minimize the impact on the trails. The north section of Ridge will be closed while logging. The north section of Ferret will be closed during logging. The logging below Sandman shouldn’t cause any closures. The bottom section of The Hole will be closed while they are logging around it. Please do NOT go past any closures – it is extremely unsafe to do so. While logging, there will be equipment coming out on the roads – please ride extra cautiously. We don’t have an exact timeframe, other than likely this fall for the logging, but will update the riders when we have more precise timelines.

Potential authorization for Kids’ Loop

While meeting with the Recreation Officer and K&K Woodlot rep, we discussed the possibility of putting a kids loop in near Ridge after the logging completes. There’s still a lot of red tape and process to go through, but the initial response was very positive. When the time comes, we’ll need volunteers to help with building the loop – we’ll let you know when we need you!
